The Velec R48-i (i for IoT!) is a new, state-of-the-art model in the electric bicycle industry. True to what made the classic R48 successful, this bike will mark the beginning of a big trend.

Equipped with the new FTEX controller, a torque sensor, and an IoT module, the R48-i boasts significantly higher range values at the same amperage as its classic R48 counterpart. The pedaling and electric assistance of the high-torque motor (500 watts HT) provide a naturally powerful ride. The R48-i experience will be enhanced by the use of the FTEX mobile application.

Four key aspects improved or added to the R48-i

1. The battery & controller

The R48i battery is an improved version of the standard R48 battery, both in terms of performance and safety. Initially, this new bike features the same 48V/10Ah or 48V/14Ah battery, but equipped with thermal resistance. Each cell of the R48i batteries is rigorously encapsulated in a thermal resin, isolating each cell. Therefore, if one of the battery cells overheats, the problem will not spread to other battery cells. This extra effort makes this battery one of the safest on the Canadian electric bike market. Furthermore, our R48i battery is UL-2271 certified, ensuring that the product is safe for use and storage.

Our new R48i controller significantly improves the power distribution of the aforementioned battery. In fact, it allows you to gain 30% more range compared to the standard R48 model. You can therefore rely on your 48V/10Ah battery for 100km of riding and 140km with your 48V/14Ah battery.

2. Two independent sensors

However, the most impressive aspect of this new electric bike is the duality of its sensors. The R48i is equipped with both a cadence sensor and a torque sensor, giving you the choice between the classic rear-wheel motor experience (cadence) and the feel of a mid-drive motor (torque). Why choose between a rear-wheel motor and a mid-drive motor when you can have both sensations on one electric bike?

3. Connected features

The R48i is equipped with an IoT module, allowing it to connect to the FTEX mobile application. You can update your bike's software directly from the app. Your bike will therefore be up-to-date with the various features that will arrive in the coming years without you needing to purchase a new electric bike. 

The application is only available on iOS for now. The Android version will be available around the end of June.

4. Improved equipment

Our electric bikes are always sold fully equipped, and this equipment is also improved on the new R48i. Our plastic mudguards (front & rear) are replaced by aluminum mudguards much more resistant to the vagaries of the road. Anchors to facilitate the addition of a bottle cage have also been added. In addition, our usual rear racks are replaced by a MIK rear rack, allowing you to use your MIK accessories on your brand new R48i.

You can also count on the return of the horn on your Velec with the R48i! Indeed, by pressing the "M" button on your console, you will be able to warn anyone of your arrival.
